Interesting, I recently bought a 2000 Vulcan 800 Classic with 17K+ miles on it and there is no "knocking". The bike had not been taken care of by the PO, and some TLC on my part has gotten it running much better/smoother. My VN800A is just a hair over 44,000 miles and still running strong. Recently had the oil changed and the carbs cleaned and it runs as good as the day I bought it new. This bike is almost bulletproof.My bike is a 2001 kawasaki vulcan 800. The problem I have just started having is the cold starts. This appears to be my choke. It doesn't want to idle at warm up speed so I have to sit in the garage while it warms up, but even then it will buck on be a couple of times while it completely gets warm. I pulled over, put the gas lever in Prime and started the bike. I drove about a mile or less and it stalled again. I moved the gas lever again to "Reserve", started the ...Clutch Slipping: 2 Problems, 1 solved. 1st problem (solved) Clutch didn't engage until lever was almost all the way out.
